Laurel Alexander

Founder of Wellness Professionals at Work, Director of Studies and Tutor

I am a private person with a public face.  I don’t mind showing and sharing myself and yet I keep my core very protected.  Food and drink sit nicely in my daily life with my favourites including jacket potato with baked beans and cheese, chocolate, white wine and new one someone told me recently of apple slices smothered in crunchy peanut butter.  I have a passion for plants and nature with each season bringing its beauty for me: spring for the freshness of air, summer for its abundant fertility, autumn for mysterious mists and symbolic shedding and winter for the sleeping land.  We’ve been blessed with five black kitties over a 35 year period, three of which we still have at the ripe old age of 20 (the cats not us).

I have been with Mick, my husband for over 40 years and have learnt so much about maturation, sharing and communication with him.  I love the sanctuary of my home, peace and quiet and regular time on my own to process, regroup.  Books and words are part of my soul weave with my go-to ones involving powerful medicine women e.g. Mists of Avalon or Earth’s Children series.

I love all things izzy-wizzy and pagan.  My default is to live a spiritual life in practical daily living which involves embracing occasional silence, being mindful of my energetic space, using my intuition, and have quickie rituals to remember my connectivity with the Divine such as sitting in nature.  I see health and wellbeing as an integrated weave of mind, body and spirit and that I am on many journeys to enrich my life and soul.

I love the creative freedom of running my own business.  I like being able to organise my schedule and love the variety of tasks I do.  I like that some of my time is spent on my own and some with groups and some 1:1.  I enjoy the intensity of deep dives into people’s psyche.  I learn from those I work with.  For example, the interaction of working with a female client who had powerful anger issues which she often transferred to me, taught me how to stay in my power, not accept transference and still hold the space for her with compassion. I am a curious person and love learning about people.  My journey and honesty with myself seem to set a role model for others to walk.

Jan Eaton

I started my coaching journey with Laurel around 12 years ago, completing my Diploma in Holistic Stress Management with WP@W in 2007 and soon afterward I set up a private coaching practice in Brighton. I have completed training in NLP, hypnosis, and mindfulness, and have gained qualifications in obesity management and nutrition with the National Centre for Eating Disorders. My specialisms are stress management, weight management, and mindful eating. My approach is very much rooted in positive psychology – in a nutshell, focusing on and cultivating clients’ strengths and qualities rather than their weaknesses and shortcomings.

I also run courses and workshops at some local adult education colleges and community education centers, and the local mental health recovery college. Courses I have run include assertiveness training; self-esteem and confidence building; healthy eating; the non-diet diet; mindfulness for stress reduction; mindful eating;  goal-setting for lasting change; and creative writing for personal development. I also run bespoke training and workshops for organizations and businesses. My website address is
