Life coaches provide support, structure, and encouragement to help clients fulfill their potential, make the most of their lives and move forward in the areas which they want to change e.g. relationships, careers, fitness, work-life balance or self-confidence.

WHO THE COURSE IS FOR

The Diploma in Life Coaching Skills is suitable for anyone who wants to develop a life coaching practice or use life coaching skills in their work. It is relevant for those who would like to coach but either want an all-around coaching qualification or haven’t yet decided on a niche market.

You could use this learning with a PAYE job or enhance your skills for a new position.  You might start-up your own business or improve an existing business.  Giving this world of portfolio working, you could have a part-time position as an employee and be self-employed at the same time.  You could use what you learn on this course to integrate into counseling, as part of human resource facilitation, to work with people in transition, as part of elder-care, for lifestyle change or with young people.

HOW THE COURSE IS DELIVERED

You can take up to two years to complete this course which is delivered through blended learning (a mixture of supported distance learning and supervised skills development).

** FAST TRACK OPTION:  You can complete the course quicker by taking the remote option.  If you choose this way of completing your supervised skills development, you can attend both the monthly Saturday masterclass in Brighton and the online monthly Saturday masterclass.  You can complete your modules as quickly as you like.

COURSE ACCREDITATION
Complementary Medical Association (CMA)

Wellness Professionals at Work is a recognized and authorized course provider of the Complementary Medical Association (CMA).   This course carries CPD points (one point for every hour of study or skills development). Following successful completion of the course, you are eligible for full membership.

National Council of Psychotherapists (NCP)

The NCP is one of the longest established and prestigious societies of its type in the UK and enjoys an international reputation.    Wellness Professionals at Work is an accredited provider of CPD with the NCP.  Each hour of this course counts towards CPD points.  You are eligible to join the NCP as a student member when you begin the course.  At course completion, you can apply for full membership as long as you fulfil membership criteria.

The course has undergone rigorous scrutiny to ensure it meets the criteria of each accrediting body and is equivalent to a level 4.

Association for Coaching (AC)

 

Wellness Professionals at Work is an organizational and training provider member of the Association for Coaching (AC) and is committed to the ethical development of coaching as a profession. This Diploma is accredited by the AC and student membership for one year is included in the course fee. Following successful completion of the Diploma and the gaining of coaching hours, you are eligible to apply for membership of the Association which has international recognition.

The UK Health Coaches Association (UKHCA)

The  UKHCA  is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the professional development and advancement of health coaches practicing in the UK.  The UKHCA currently considers membership applications from students and graduates from Wellness Professionals at Work.

COURSE OUTLINE

Stage One:  Pre-Course Reading

Prior to your skills development, you will need to read the provided textbook (s).

Stage Two:  Supervised Skills Development and Supported Distance Learning

The supervised skills development and supported distance learning run concurrently.

Supervised skills development

You need to complete 40 hours of supervised skills development before you take on case studies.

There are two different ways you could have your skills development:

1          Face-to-face group Saturday workshops

You need to attend seven Saturday workshops before taking on case studies. You can start your master classes at any time of the year and they need not be consecutive attendance.

Saturday master classes in Brighton, Sussex, UK   These run from 10 am – 4 pm on the following  dates:

2018 – 13 January, 10 February, 17 March, 14 April, 19 May, 9 June, 7 July, 15 September, 20 October, 17 November, 8 December

2019 – 12 January, 9 February, 9 March, 13 April, 11 May, 8 June, 13 July,  14 September, 12 October, 9 November, 14 December

2          Remote sessions

These skills development sessions run one Saturday each month via Zoom.  During these online Saturday master classes you will be working with fellow students in a small group facilitated by myself.  You will be trained delivering remote coaching to a fellow student and be coached yourself.  These online workshops run on the following dates:

5 January – 2 February – 2 March – 6 April – 18 May – 15 June – 6 July – 7 September – 5 October – 2 November – 7 December

Other features of the online master classes:

  • The day will run from 9am until 5pm.
  • Each coaching session will be 30 minutes.
  • There will be regular comfort breaks.
  • There will be a minimum of two students (with a shorter day) to a maximum of eight students.

Each hour you’re attending the online masterclass counts towards your supervised skills development time.  You can start your online master classes at any time of the year, and they need not be consecutive attendance.

In addition, you can boost your supervised skills development hours through 1:1 online workshops (at mutually convenient times) with myself, you and a volunteer client you can identify to work with (remotely or face-to-face).

For a fast-track option, you can complete your skills development hours via both the monthly online workshops and the monthly group attendance in Brighton, Sussex.

Supported distance learning

You can go at your own pace for the distance learning with the full support of your tutor.  This is designed to give you the underpinning knowledge you need in order to practice life coaching. As well as the pre-course reading, additional textbooks are provided. Based on this reading and your self-directed study, you complete assignments at your own pace. Completed work is passed onto your tutor for marking and comment and returned to you together with the next module.

You are required to keep a learning journal throughout the course. This records your personal and professional learning experiences related to the Diploma.

Stage Three:  Case Studies

Following your supervised skills development, you need to complete fifty hours of case studies. You complete all case studies in your own time and location, under remote supervision from your tutor.

Stage Four:  CPD and Course Evaluation

ASSESSMENT

You will be assessed: during your face-to-face skills development, via assignments, case studies, and learning journal.
