I started my first business when I was 19 with only a second-hand desk and a phone. Admittedly my maturity was lacking somewhat, but the spirit and drive were there. Thirty-five years later, I’m still self-employed (now with maturity), with even more spirit and drive plus a great deal more in the bank.
Today, more people than ever are looking to start their own business.
If you’re reading this page, you’re thinking about it. I guess you’re feeling excited and curious about the opportunity - and also maybe a little apprehensive. You might be reasonably confident about your product or service idea, but be nervous about the business side.
How I can help you
Going self-employed is both exciting and daunting and it can be helpful to have someone guiding your opening steps towards success. With 35 years of solid (and profitable!) business experience behind me, I can coach you through the following:
Working with Laurel is a breath of fresh air. She has a style that combines a highly professional approach with humour, humility and great knowledge and insight. I particularly appreciated her directness, getting to the nub of the issue and providing sensitive and appropriate developmental feedback. I also found Laurel's help and advice extremely useful in deciding how to set myself up in business.Cathy Lawson, Executive Business Coach
My mentor was very encouraging and supportive. I really valued her attention to detail in helping me ensure there were no flaws in my business plan. Working on specific tasks/sections of the plan prior to each mentoring session allowed me to complete the plan in a manageable way, without feeling too overwhelmed. S.C.

As a successful business woman I scan constantly for what works well and what does not work well. I delve, enquire, research, search and rummage. In discovering Laurel I found a co-conspiritor who, not only delves, enquires, searches and rummages beside me - but also asks me the right questions for me to be able to generate a plan of action - and a way of thinking that takes my uncertain, fragile and incomplete ideas forward. It works...it works great!!! Thank you Laurel. Mary Bacchoo, Aspirations Active.
